Tortoises may have a grumpy crusty demeanor – but lets face it, they’re cute! I’ve read posts on CuteOverload.com about the adorableness of tortoises crusty butts (seriously).
However depicting crusty butts and indeed crusty arms, legs, shells, serrated beaks, these all leave something to be desired. As an artist, I feed on patterns, and the Galapagos, Aldabra, and African Spur Thigh all have plenty of crusty and no markings.
They leave me at a loss. Yet they are my favorite animal by far, and my own tortoises at home resent their absence from my artistic repertoire. So here is my borosilicate solution – relaxing, soothing, yet sturdy and reliable as the tortoise.
These are gems – They sparkle and invite the viewer in for more, every time. Surprises lay in each turn of the faceted shell. In the hand they are a gentle delight, a treasure.
